Start with the Grid

This page should be a starting point for using the Grid in the FLC group. It should gather useful hints, procedures, workarounds and scripts that can be used to run jobs on the Grid. This site is not (and will never be) complete. But: this page is a Wiki page. So please help to improve this page.

1. Prerequisites

• Get the gLite 3 User Guide

• a Grid certificate

• an executable program working on a computer with Scientific Linux 4 or 3

• a Grid UI

2. Steps to run a Grid job

1. upload the binary to a Storage Element

2. create a run script to execute the binary on a worker node
3. create a JDL file

4. run your job

   • check the JDL file
   • submit the job
   • check its status every once in a while
   • retrieve the output when the job is done
   • or cancel the job if you need to
