Big TPC

This TPC prototype has been built 1988 at the Max-Planck-Institut für Physik in Munich. It is about 105 cm long and its diameter is about 40 cm. In our group, the Big TPC prototype has been used for studies with the front-end electronics based on TDC and laser studies (see DESY-THESIS-2007-011, 2007-03, in German).
For the laser studies, 3 small window pairs are built into the fieldcage at 55, 296 and 956 mm from the anode. Through these windows laser beams can be shot through the chamber at defined positions, e.g. to measure the drift velocity. A picture of the prototype with the laser setup next to it is shown in Figure 1.
